Smashburger is a modern casual burger chain that started in Denver Colorado in 2007. Since then they have been expanding like gangbusters. Currently they are in four countries and plan to open dozens of new locations in the next year. While they have been on the Westside the San Gabriel Valley gets its first Smashburger in Monrovia. Smashburger is a little different from the usual burger places So Cal is used to. They do a caramelized thin "smashed" patty with a egg bun (kinda like King Hawaiian rolls without the sweet factor) in a casual restaurant putting them in competition with places like The Habit and 5 Guys.
Food wise I enjoyed Smashburger. My favorite thing was their chicken sandwich which is a marinated chicken breast that also gets "smashed" (its not pretty) and served with any of the topping the burgers have. I personally liked their truffle option. It has baby portabella mushrooms, truffle sauce, and cheese. That and some onion strings (think thin onion rings) and I would be happy. Maybe with one of their milkshakes...
